UPDATE: Leland’s Village Road exit reopens

LELAND, NC (WWAY) – The Village Road exit on US 17/74/76 in Leland is back open. Brunswick County dispatchers confirmed that around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Due to icy conditions, the North Carolina Department of Transportation had to close that part of US 17/74/76 for a few hours. Brunswick County dispatchers said that both eastbound and westbound lanes were shut down at the Village Road exit because the overpass was so icy. Emergency responders helped divert traffic so DOT crews could de-ice the overpass.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page said the Holden Beach bridge is also closed due to ice. As of 9:15 p.m., there was no update on how when that would reopen.
