UPDATE: Shooting victim arrested on drug charges
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police have arrested a man shot early this morning at a Wilmington apartment complex.
Wilmington Police say the shooting happened around 3:45 a.m. at the Pines of Wilmington near Shipyard Boulevard. That’s where police say they found the Anthony James Cromartie, Jr., 26, inside his apartment with a gunshot wound in each leg.
Officers say they believe the shooting was drug-related. They’ve charged Cromartie with possession with the intent to sell and distribute Schedule II, possession of Schedule VI, maintaining a dwelling and possession of drug paraphernalia.
After a trip to the hospital for treatment, police booked Cromartie into jail under $10,000 secured bond.
There’s no word yet on any suspects in the case. Police say the investigation continues.
The NC Department of Correction website shows Cromartie has a criminal record that dates back to 2005. It includes several convictions for drugs, as well as trespassing and resisting an officer.
