UPDATE: Southport suspect in two robberies arrested

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested a man suspected of robbing two businesses in Southport.

Detectives say Robert Anthony Nichols of Southport is now in custody.
He has been charged with two counts of common law robbery. He is currently being detained in the Brunswick County Detention Center under a $30,000 bond.

Investigators say the first incident occurred Wednesday at the Murphy Gas Station in Southport. Investigators say he was wearing a gray shirt, black shoes and blue jeans with a tan hat and sunglasses.

The second incident occurred Thursday at the Tobacco Road Outlet on Long Beach Road in Southport.
Investigators say he was wearing a faded red shirt with camouflage shorts and black shoes and also wore the same tan ball cap, black sun glasses, and had a mustache.
