UPDATE: Woman caught trafficking cocaine gets community service
UPDATE: Sowell was convicted of the charges on April 21 and was sentenced to community service and put on probation for two years. She will not serve any prison time.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (NEWS RELEASE) – New Hanover County Sheriff’s Vice and Narcotics Detectives concluded a two week investigation with the arrest of Dorothy K. Sowell for cocaine charges. Late Sunday afternoon, Detectives stopped Sowell at the intersection of Wrightsville Ave. and Wilshire Blvd. After searching Sowell’s vehicle Detectives discovered over 60 grams of cocaine, digital scales, and packaging material valued at over $6000.00.
Dorothy Sowell is a 36 year old white female currently being held in the New Hanover County Detention Facility under a $30,000.00 secure bond.
Sowell’s charges include:
Traffic cocaine by possession-felony
Traffic cocaine by transportation-felony
Traffic cocaine by manufacture-felony
PWISD cocaine-felony
Maintaining a vehicle or dwelling-felony
Possession of drug paraphernalia-misdemeanor
