UPDATE: Wreck kills teenager, injures seven more

SUPPLY, NC (WWAY) — A deadly wreck in Supply, killed one teenage and injured seven others. It happened around 2:00 AM off of Holden Beach Rd. The teens were all in a pickup truck, some in the back, when it ran off of the road.

State highway patrol identified the driver as 17-year-old Joshua Coleman. Others in the crash were 15-year-old Raekwon Brooks, 15-year-old Megan Brown, 17-year-old Anthony Groves, 14-year-old Teala Moss, 15-year-old Winston Stothart and 16-year-old Selena Utter.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash. A toxicology screen has been ordered to see if anything else could have contributed to the crash.
Highway patrol says this is a standard procedure for this kind of wreck.

First responders say, it’s been a long time since they have seen a wreck like this. WWAY spoke with some of them after they cam back on their own time Sunday, looking for some missing items from some of the teens involved in the wreck.

“She (Selena Utter) had lost her glasses so a couple a guys out here decided to come back out here and search,” said Fire fighter Michael Beaty.

Beaty joined with some others that were at the scene of the crash. Kayla Talyor was getting her EMT basic training. She says she had never seen a wreck

“I was honestly pretty scared just seeing all the kids just laying there in need of help,” Taylor said.

They say the teen that did not survive the crash, 17-year-old Tyrus Johnston was stuck under the truck in the the ditch.

Utter’s parents tell us she got out of surgery Sunday morning and is currently paralyzed.
They don’t know if its permanent.
All the passengers were between the ages of 14 to 17. A roadside memorial from Tyrus Johnston’s family has been set up where broken glass remains.
Taylor hopes this tragic wreck will serve as a warning to other teens.

“Your parents need to know where you are because if something like this happens We couldn’t get no information out of these children last night cause they were all panicked.”
