UPDATE: DOT apologizes to Rocky Point family

ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — We have a follow up on story we told you about Friday about a Rocky Point couple having problems with the Department of Transportation over an easement.

The Swopes say the DOT ripped up part of their yard, taking sod and reflectors they had put up. A DOT official said work crews were instructed to clear the corner because the area was designated as a right of way for drivers, but he apologized for taking the sod and reflectors and said they would be returned to the Swopes.

The DOT also said it would replace the sod.
