Update on Clear-cutting vote

Monday, WWAY reported of the uncertainty of a clear-cutting amendment vote happening Monday night.

New Hanover County commissioners unanimously approved new rules to protect trees from clear cutting.

The decision means county officials could penalize development companies that cut down trees without a permit by delaying projects for up to 5 years. In the past, development companies cut down trees before applying for a permit.

The new regulations will not apply to forestry companies, or plots smaller than an acre of land.
