Update on new G.I. Bill

Soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan are one step closer to having their college education funded by the government.

The senate voted yesterday on the 2008 Supplemental Appropriations Act — informally known as the new G.I. Bill.

It passed with flying colors — 92 votes to six.

Both North Carolina Senators Dole and Burr voted yes.

The bill allocates $50 billion over the next 10 years to cover a soldier’s entire tuition cost at any state university.

If it gets the presidents signature, the bill becomes law.
