Update on possible Columbus County attack

Tuesday we told you about a Columbus County family concerned about what they say was a brutal attack on their elderly aunt last October.

Richard Wilson said he went to check on his aunt Ida Smith, and found her naked and bleeding on her bedroom floor.

Medical reports show Smith had broken legs, and had bruises on her face and upper body.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident, but say they closed it, because they believed smith was injured in a fall.

Since our story ran yesterday, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Department has re-opened Smith’s case.

We spoke to Ida Smith’s family this morning. They said they had not yet heard from the sheriff’s department, but were grateful to hear the case would be investigated further.
