US 74 back open at Columbus-Robeson line

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — More than a week after Hurricane Matthew, drivers can finally make it all the way through Columbus County on US 74.

The NC Department of Transportation has reopened a section of US 74 closed by floodwater from Hurricane Matthew last week. The section of the highway at the Robeson-Columbus County line near the Lumber River has been put into a two-lane, two-way pattern while repairs to the roadway are continuing.

The highway, which is the most direct route from the Wilmington area to destinations including I-95 South and Charlotte, has been closed since Oct. 10. The DOT posted a picture on Facebook last week showing parts of the road washed away from the continued flooding.

A second section of US 74 has a right lane closure near NC 130 in Robeson County.
