US Marshals track down Brunswick County man in Belize

A man who disappeared last year while on trial in Brunswick County has been apprehended in Central America.

Back in December, Brian Perry was being tried for statutory rape, taking indecent liberties with a child and possession of firearm by a felon. The jury found him guilty, but Perry fled the country while the trial was still in progress.

The US Marshals have been looking for him for months, and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office got word this weekend that he had been found in Belize.

They are now in the process of having him extradited back to the United States. Perry has a lengthy criminal history and could face more than 40 years in prison
