USS North Carolina submarine coming to Port City

WILMINGTON — Boaters beware: there will be strict security near the state port today for the arrival of the USS North Carolina.

The submarine North Carolina is expected to cruise up the Cape Fear River at 2:00 p.m. and there will be tight security for its arrival.

There will be a welcoming ceremony this afternoon from three to five.

The sub’s crew will be greeted by Congressman Mike McIntyre and Mayor Bill Saffo, as well as other city and county officials.

The North Carolina will officially become a US sub during a commissioning ceremony at the port. That happens next Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
