Vehicle fire spreads to Wilmington business, leaving questions

Investigators are looking into a fire in the Wrightsboro area of New Hanover County early Wednesday morning.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to an intruder alarm on Capital Drive just after 3:00 a.m. They arrived at Southeastern Tile Connection and found a van on fire next to the building. Fire investigators said the flames spread from the vehicle into the building.

“There was a little bit of extension into the building. The fire was held to minor damage inside the building, said Deputy Fire Marshal, David Heath

Several engines responded to the fire. It took the fire department around a half hour to put out the blaze. Crews continued working to salvage the property inside the building.

The fire is being treated as a crime scene because the van did not belong to the company.
