Vertex sends off first completed railcars

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington’s Vertex railcars factory shipped out their first batch of rail cars this afternoon. Thirty cars were sent on their way.

Vertex executives, employees, state and local officials were on hand to send them off.

Donald Croteau, Vertex Rail Technologies CEO, said this is a big step forward for the company that is fairly new to the Port City.

“It really is a mile stone for us, for us as people, as teammates, as employees, as friends, people in Wilmington,” said Croteau.

A spokesman said 189 people work at Vertex and most of them are from New Hanover and surrounding counties.
