Veteran paddles to raise awareness for veteran suicide

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A retired special forces veteran made his way through the cape fear as he raises awareness for other veterans.

He’s journeying, by paddle board, from Texas to New York for his cause to help veterans  like himself who suffer from traumatic brain injuries. Josh Collins said 22 veterans commit suicide everyday. His journey will amount to 3500 miles and a total of four months.

Collins says it represents what soldiers experience when they separate from the military.

“You’re out there alone. You see the hardship, the wind, the waves, the fatigue. Sometimes you feel like quitting and you gotta reach out for some support,” Collins said.

Collins is raising awareness for the Task Force Dagger Foundation which provides assistance to wounded, ill, or injured U.S. Veterans and their families.
