Veterans honored in downtown Wilmington during parade

Wilmington, NC (WWAY)– The annual Southeast North Carolina Veterans’ parade was in downtown Wilmington on Saturday.

Hundreds of community members came together on a beautiful morning to cheer on members of the U.S. armed forces. The celebration consisted of music, dancing, and an unfolding of a sixty-foot American flag held by volunteers and veterans.

The parade itself started at eleven in the morning and featured a variety of local veteran groups, high school bands, and other organizations.

Jim Ware, an army veteran, says he appreciates how many people came together to honor those who served.

“This shows me people care about we did. We want to make sure even current veterans, active-duty soldiers, reservist, are all recognized for the commitment they make to this county to serve and protect”, said Ware

Veterans’ day falls on November eleventh this year, so make sure to give thanks this week to those who serve and protect our country.
