Veterans learn about small businesses

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A program called Boots to Business gave veterans in our area entrepreneurial training Friday.

The Small Business Administration teamed up with local resource partners at the UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the all day event.

The workshop covers various topics including business plan writing, setting up a legal structure, and securing funding.

“Veterans as a rule are generally 200% more to be successful in small business than a non veteran,” Don Spry, SBA Wilmington Senior Area Manager, said.

Spry says offering this class means the information is easy accessible and that this class could lead to a more profitable business.

He adds small businesses make up about 6% of the market, 13% of that are businesses owned by military families.
