Via Crucis brings community together for Good Friday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Hispanic community in Wilmington remembered Christ’s journey through the stations of the cross, or as they call it “Via Crucis.” Hundreds of people turned out for the program.

Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary’s Via Crusis was an entire production put on by the Hispanic youth in the community. It is meant to showcase Jesus’ passion and suffering as he died for the sins of the world. It was done in Spanish but Father Bob Kus says that does not stop people from enjoying the message the program brings.

“It’s really great that the whole thing is in Spanish, but it doesn’t make any difference because we all know the story and so everybody is able to follow along, regardless. And people are very moved even if they only speak English,” Father Bob said.

The program goes on for about an hour, but Father Bob says every year, he sees more and more people come out to enjoy the program with everyone else from the community.

Father Bod said they did have plans for if it rained but he was praying that didn’t happen. But it worked out in his favor.
