Victim escapes as armed robber shoots and misses

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An armed robbery in Wilmington ended in a shooting Tuesday night. But, police said the victim wasn’t hit.

Lt. Blanton with the Wilmington Police Department said a 22-year-old man was leaving a convenience store around 9:45 p.m. when the robber came up behind him near 12th and Greenfield Streets and hit him in the back of the head with a handgun. He then demanded money. When the victim refused, the suspect cocked his gun. The victim quickly complied throwing $30 in cash at the robber. As the victim ran away, the suspect fired a shot that hit the ground.

Blanton said the suspect, who is described as a black man with dreadlocks and a red flannel shirt drove away in a silver vehicle.

At this time, there is no one in custody.
