Victim in Castle Hayne shooting dies, ex-wife likely to face murder charge

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The man who deputies said was shot by his ex-wife earlier this week has died from his injuries.

A spokeswoman with New Hanover Regional Medical Center said Robert Crampton, 31, died Tuesday. Deputies say his ex-wife, Jennifer Crampton shot him in the head Monday night at a home on Castle Hayne Road.

Jennifer Crampton is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, but District Attorney Ben David says she is likely to face a first-degree murder charge following her ex-husband’s death.
