Vietnam Vet walks entire east coast, stops in Shallotte
SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — A Vietnam veteran is walking from Florida all the way up to Maine for a cause close to his heart. This is the second part of Al Slusser’s “Great America Walk.”
Last year, the six-year Navy veteran walked 3,200 miles from San Diego to Annapolis. We caught up with him in Shallotte, where he stopped for the night.
Slesser began the 2,100-mile walk from Key West, Florida to northern Maine on April 5. The trip he’s on now is dedicated to a cause greater than himself.
“It’s become a ministry, a mission, it’s a spiritual journey for me, but it’s also dedicated to honor all U.S. Veterans,” said Slusser.
He says he expects to reach his destination some time in late August or early September, and plans to be in Wilmington Thursday afternoon.
