Vince Dooley remembers brother, former UNC Coach Bill Dooley

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Family, friends, and former players and coaches paid their respects Saturday morning at former UNC Coach Bill Dooley’s funeral.

Dooley spent time coaching for North Carolina, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. His funeral mass was held at the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary in Wilmington. Brother Vince Dooley, who served as head football coach at the University of Georgia, said his brother will be remembered as a coach who loved to teach and cared for his players.

“He’ll be remembered for a long time to come and again with all these players because that is the special benefit of being a coach, is to have your players come back and say, ‘thanks coach’ and that’s what they’re doing right here today,” Dooley said.

Dooley died Tuesday. He was 82.
