Volunteer firefighter killed in Brunswick Co. boating accident
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A volunteer firefighter is dead and another man is in serious condition after a boating accident in Brunswick County Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened on the Intracoastal Waterway near Blue Point Marina Saturday around 4:30 p.m. Officers with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission say both Daniel Gralak and Dustin Greiner were seriously hurt when their boat hit a wooden pylon in the waterway.
According to the Northwest Volunteer Fire Department's Facebook page, Gralak, who was a firefighter there, died.
A post on the fire department's page reads, "Prayers for Daniel's family. Unfortunately he did not make it. Prayers still requested for Dusty. He was the other person on the boat. Daniel, aka Honey Bear, was a fine young man."
Wildlife officers say they do not believe alcohol played any part in the accident. They say no charges have been filed at this time.
