Wait a second for 2009
We’ll have to wait just a little longer to ring in 2009; one leap second to be exact.
The world timekeepers are adding the extra second because Earth is slowing down just a bit.
The time will allow atomic clocks to stay in tune with the earth’s rotation. That extra second will make 2008 the longest year since 1992.
If you’re keeping count, that extra second will appear tonight between 6:59:59 and 7 p.m., EST.
