Wake Forest hires assistant Gaudio to replace Prosser

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Wake Forest's basketball team will have a familiar face as their new head coach.

Longtime assistant Dino Gaudio will succeed the late Skip Prosser, who died July 26th of an apparent heart attack.

The 50-year-old Gaudio has been Wake Forest's associate head coach since 2002. He is getting a five-year contract. The terms were not immediately available.

Gaudio says he wants to make the tragedy a success story. He says he wants the Demon Deacons to have a storybook season.

Gaudio returns to head coaching for the first time since leaving Loyola of Maryland in 2000. Gaudio was 32-52 at Loyola. He had a 36-72 record with Army prior to taking the Loyola job.
