Wake Up Tour focuses on first-time voters
Election Day is less than three weeks away, and one grassroots organization is trying to motivate young voters.
The group is called My First Vote, and aims to get first-time voters to the polls on November fourth, especially in swing states.
The group kicked of a purple state tour last night at UNCW, where students watched the presidential debate. Part of their tour includes interviewing people and posting the video to their website to encourage a peer-to-peer political dialogue.
They are traveling in the Wake Up Tour Bus, which got its name for a reason.
“We will call you on Election Day and literally wake you up at any time that you want to be woken up, it could be 7:00 a.m. it could be 2:00 in the afternoon, whatever state you’re in and we will give you a wake up call making sure if you’re a registered voter that you get out,” said Jonathan Pillot of My First Vote.
Pillot said the group is about citizenship, not politics. The tour bus will also visit Pennsylvania and Ohio.
