UPDATE: Driver suspected of approaching kids cleared, but similar report remains
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says investigators have found a car and driver believed to have been involved in a pair of incidents in neighboring subdivisions involving young girls.
According to incident reports, Wednesday, someone followed two children in the Hawkeswater community off NC 133 near Belville Elementary investigators today looked at surveillance video from the neighborhood and released an image of a blue Ford Mustang.
“Yeah I was concerned about it because we’re just a few doors down from where the incident is thought to have occurre,” said Hawkeswater neighbor Rob Dalessandro. “But I am glad that they were proactive and that they’re on top of it. It’s hard to discern who’s coming through your neighborhood and who’s good and who’s bad.”
This evening a spokeswoman said investigators had located the car and cleared the driver of any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile they are still looking for information on another case nearby.
On Thursday, a suspect approached two young girls while they were walking home from the school bus on Eastwood Lane in Olde Towne.
“My daughters were walking from their bus stop when a car came flying by them and then pulled over open the door and came to grab them,” wrote the mother in a community group page.
In that case, according to a social media post by the girls’ mother, a white male with dark hair drove by, pulled over, opened the car door and tried to grab them. The girls ran home safely. The mother said based on the description from the girls and after showing them some pictures they believe it may have been a grayish blue Pathfinder or Bronco with cardboard boxes behind the windows in the back seat.
