War veterans honored
Several war veterans received high honors Monday night. Three vets stood tall as they were recognized for their service to the armed forces.
War veteran Leroy Perry said, “It’s an honor to receive this after all that I did. I did three tours in Vietnam. It’s been a long time coming and I’m glad to finally receive them.”
Glover Stanford won the Purple Heart award. Stephen Crandall won the combat award and Leroy Perry won several medals. The two most special to him were the humanitarian award and the Vietnam service award.
War veteran Glover Stanford said, “It’s always nice to have a ceremony like this, because it makes you feel like you’ve done something.”
Some of the vets we spoke with say the war experience changed them, and they sympathize with soldiers coming back from the Iraq war.
War veteran Stephen Crandall said, “It’s a little bit of closure, it’s only took 39 years but unlike a lot of veterans behind me, I’m still around to receive it. At least I got it.”
Many of the Vietnam veterans say they still suffer flashbacks from the war.
