Warrants: Money embezzled from Cancer Society used for lavish life

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New details have emerged about the alleged embezzlement of more than $68,000 by a former American Cancer Society employee.

Investigators say that during a 10-month period in which Wendy Perdue had control of an unauthorized America Cancer Society checking account, she stole money to live a frivolous lifestyle.

Arrest warrants say Perdue used a debit card linked to a checking account she set up in the name of Relay for Life to go on trips to a Disney resort, Radio City Music Hall and the House of Blues. Investigators say Perdue also cashed two checks she wrote to herself totaling more than $20,000 and used another check for more than $8,000 to pay for work at Wilmington Plastic Surgery.

Perdue faces ten counts of embezzlement. Her case was back in court today. It was continued until Dec. 11.
