Watch hundreds of stingrays swim off Wrightsville Beach coast

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Talk about an incredible view! A local boat captain was stunned when he saw hundreds of stingrays swimming through shallow water off our coast Thursday morning. The best part, it was all caught on camera.

In the video, you can see a massive group of cownose stingrays migrating through Masonboro Inlet.

Captain Jot Owens streamed the video live on his Facebook.

“You don’t get to see that every day,” Owens says in the video.

Experts say cownose rays are related to sharks and skates. They can be found in the Atlantic Ocean along western Africa, the eastern U.S., the Gulf of Mexico and parts of the Caribbean. They are considered an open ocean species, but can inhabit inshore, shallow bays and estuaries.
