Water Street businesses prepare for flooding

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s called Water Street and it lives up to its name.  Some business owners are ready for possible flooding in the downtown Wilmington area.

Anytime there is heavy rain on Water street, flooding can be an issue there. The folks at Network Real Estate, just across the street from where the Coast Guard Diligence docks, know this all too well and already have some protections in place.

Broker Jim Bitto told us the water, even without the threat of a hurricane, has come up to their doors. He and his team now have sandbags ready to go.
“Last time we actually caulked the bottom of our doors which wasn’t a very good idea because it was really hard to get the caulk off,” Bitto joked. “So this time we decided to sandbag the doors.”

The city of Wilmington is also prepping for the storm by securing all the construction equipment and getting any unnecessary tools out of the way on Water Street.
