Water Street parking deck demolition begins after years of talk, delays

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After years of talk and delayed plans demolition of the old Water Street parking deck in downtown Wilmington has started.

The work is being done near the intersection of Grace and Water Streets.

An amendment to the purchase and development agreement for the project that will replace the deck, Riverplace, was approved by the Wilmington City Council earlier this month, paving the way for demolition to start.

Riverplace will be a multi-story, mixed use development that will include public parking, residential, and retail space.
