Water Street reopens in downtown Wilmington
Water Street in downtown Wilmington reopened Tuesday. A portion of the street has been closed off since January to repair an underground bulkhead.
Small sink holes appeared to be eroding the street that runs parallel to the Cape Fear River. The bulkhead works as a retaining wall and is located underneath the street.
City engineers said it was important to repair the bulkhead before the situation became critical.
The one million dollar project was completed on budget and on time for this weekend’s Azalea festivities.
