Watha man going to prison after pleading guilty to first-degree rape

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Watha man is going to prison for first-degree rape after pleading guilty in Pender County Superior Court.

The districts attorney’s office says Humberto Torrez, 37, raped a 10-year-old girl in 2012.

When confronted by the victim and law enforcement investigators, Torrez admitted to the crime, according to a release.

Torrez was sentenced to up to 29 years behind bars.

Once he is released from prison, Torrez will be placed on post-release supervision for 5 years and must register as a sex offender for life.
