Wave bus turns into fireball

Four passengers and a Wave Transit bus driver are safe after the bus caught on fire around 6:30 Saturday night near Market and Wayne streets in Wilmington.

According to firefighters, the driver saw smoke coming out from under the hood.

The driver pulled over, and got the four passengers out before the front of the bus burst in to flames, and destroyed the vehicle.

Traffic was shut down for about an hour on Market Street while crews battled the flames. Luckily everyone got out safely.

Witnesses said the scene was shocking. “The whole bus was on fire. I could feel the heat all the way from the gate. It was like a giant fireball. It was crazy,” explained witness Jack Guttenberger.
