Weather threat washes out Pleasure Island New Year’s Eve tradition

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A New Year’s Eve tradition in the Cape Fear will not happen this year.

Organizers announced this afternoon that festivities planned for tonight at Carolina Beach, including the annual Beach Ball drop and fireworks, are canceled because of the threat of bad weather tonight.

The events are part of the the annual Island of Lights, that runs from Thanksgiving through New Year’s.
