ONLY ON 3: Weekend fights downtown injure at least three
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — What one man thought was just another night out on the town with some friends has left him scarred for life. Wilmington Police say this weekend’s bar scene was one of the worst this summer. Fights broke out around the same time bars typically let out: 2 a.m. They left at least three people injured and one man with scars he’ll have for the rest of his life.
Wilmington Police responded to two fights outside the Rhino Club and Sidebar. Another fight took place inside City Limits Saloon. Police say downtown had more people than a typical summer weekend.
Brandin Roberts is a Marine from Jacksonville. He said he spent the night at the Rhino Club. After the bars let out, Roberts said he was attacked by a man holding a razor, near the parking lot next to the Rhino Club.
“I have lacerations to the back of the neck, laceration to the temple, laceration over the top of the lip, laceration on the left side top of my head,” Roberts said. “I had never seen this guy a day in my life. So many things went through my mind. I don’t know if it was someone I was with earlier that night or what. I don’t know.”
Wilmington Police are investigating all three fights. They said they’re not sure why downtown was so crowded. They said one factor could be all the college students moving back into town from summer vacation.
