West Brunswick shelter remains open and ready for any who need help


SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — The West Brunswick High School emergency shelter is still open and prepared for anyone in the area who might need help.

Currently there are several folks checked into the shelter, but Red Cross volunteers say they are expecting more to need assistance as the conditions outside worsen throughout the evening.

According to James Jarvis, a disaster relief specialist with the Red Cross, both New Hanover, Pender, and Duplin counties have decided not to open shelters at this time. Columbus County should be making a decision in the near future.

Volunteers are the shelter continue to stress that anyone who feels like they might be in danger should err on the side of caution and evacuate. Folks are on hand to help provide hot and nutritious meals to those who need to leave their homes.
