Wilmington Fire Dept. responds to two residential fires
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Fire crews in Wilmington responded to two separate homes Saturday.
According to Wilmington Fire Department Assistant Chief, Sammy Flowers, both happened in the evening around 4:00 and 5:00 p.m.
The first home was at 1313 Church Street. When crews arrived, the fire had already been put out by a resident of the home. There was a minor smoke inhalation injury that was treated by EMS on scene. The fire was ruled accidental and WPD reports that the cause was unattended cooking. There was some smoke damage to the kitchen.
The fire department wants to remind all residents to stay in the kitchen while using the stove top or oven.

The second home crews responded to was 4255 Birchwood Drive. It was a multifamily home with flames visible from the outside. Crews were able to control the fire and damages were only on the outside of the home. This fire was also ruled accidental with the cause being improperly disposed smoking material outside. No injuries were reported.
The fire department wants to remind residents, if you are going to smoke, make sure all smoking material is disposed of properly and completely extinguished.
