What’s Happening: March 26-28
Friday and Saturday night, it’s all about the ladies. Lunafest is a film festival featuring award-winning short films by women and about women. Showings are at Brown Coat Pub and Threatre. 111 Grace Street at 8 pm. Tickets are $20 in advance. $25 at the door. Dinner is included.
Ok, it’s going to be a little cooler this weekend, but Poplar Grove Plantation is still holding its annual Rite of Spring, an herb and garden fair. Everything is locally grown. Hours Saturday are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but a $2 donation will support the plantation.
Get your running shoes ready. Saturday, “Walk for Those Who Can’t” and help benefit Carolina Canines. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Hugh MacRae Park. A $25 donation is requested. Some of the cast of the Lifetime TV series “Army Wives” will be there.
Or, you can participate in the first ever “Run for The Red” 5k race to benefit the Cape Fear chapter of the American Red Cross. The registration fee is $30. You should register online before the event. Go to www.arccapefear.org. The race starts at 8 a.m. at Mayfaire Town Center.
If riding is more your speed, there’s a “Revving It Up for The Cure” motorcycle ride Saturday.
It benefits New Hanover County Relay for Life. Day of registration is $20 or $25 if you have a passenger. The ride starts at 11 a.m. at Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson in Wilmington and ends at New River Harley-Davidson.
Sunday afternoon if you’re looking for some family fun, head to UNCW for a spring hootenanny.
There will be folk songs and a sing-a-long. Proceeds benefit the Historical Society of the Lower Cape Fear. Tickets are $10. It runs from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Kenan Auditorium.
