What’s Happening: December 12-14
There is no excuse for staying indoors this weekend. You can experience two holiday classics, tour historic homes and visit with Santa Claus while enjoying some sweet treats.
Frank Capra’s holiday classic “It’s a Wonderful Life” comes to life on the Thalian Hall this weekend. The musical “A Wonderful Life” is Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Sunday’s performance is at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 and $20.
You have more chances to catch the Polar Express Saturday and Sunday. WWAY’s Chris Phillips and Joe Mauceri will read the timeless classic to the kids on Saturday. Tickets are five dollars per person, children under two are free. There will be two shows each day, one at 4:30 p.m. the other at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are required.
Change of Heart Ministry is raising money to build a chapel at Pender Correctional Facility. A concert will take place at 6:00 p.m. at Livingstone Tabernacle Church on Sloop Point Road. The concert starts at 6:00 p.m.
If you are near Ocean Isle Beach from now until December 27th, stop by the Museum of Coastal Carolina. You can make holiday crafts celebrating Christmas, Hanukah, & Kwanzaa. There is even a North Pole mailbox to send a letter to Santa. Friday and Saturday hours are from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Admission is eight dollars for adults, six dollars for students and four dollars for pre-schoolers.
Holiday events continue in Brunswick County, with Southport’s Christmas Tour of Homes. Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., tour nine historic homes and enjoy a horse and buggy ride. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
On Saturday, Leland gets into the holiday spirit with its North Carolina Christmas Festival and Parade. The parade starts at 10:00 a.m. The festival and entertainment begin at noon. You can park at Woodburn Presbyterian Church and the First Baptist Church of Leland. Free shuttles are available.
Also on Saturday a long standing tradition returns. Covenant Moravian Church on South College Road is holding its Candle Tea Event. It runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. There will be tea and cookies, carols and a narrated nativity. Adults and children wearing German style garb will make beeswax candles, cookies and wreaths.
There is also a themed holiday event at the Burgwin-Wright House this weekend. It is a Colonial Christmas. The historic home will be decorated in the 1700’s Christmas tradition. On Saturday, it is from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Tickets are ten dollars each.
If you have been thinking of going to a chiropractor, get a free consultation while making the holidays a little brighter for a needy child. Stop by Active Care Chiropractic on Oleander Drive with a new, unwrapped toy to get the free service. The fundraiser is Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Finally, on Sunday don’t miss the Santa Sweet Treat. Stop by Santa’s Candy Court at Independence Mall from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. for pictures with Santa, arts and crafts and refreshments. Santa will also read, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the event.
