Whats Happening: December 19-21

A holiday classic takes center stage at two different venues this weekend. Plus, share a meal with Tiny Tim, as the story of Ebenezer Scrooge comes to life during a dinner theater.

It is a beloved holiday classic, but how you want to watch it is up to you. Friday night, UNCW will hold its annual screening of Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life in Kenan Auditorium. Get there at 6:30 p.m. for holiday music and free hot cider and cocoa. The movie begins at 7:00 p.m.

Or if you’d like a musical rendition, head to Thalian Hall for A Wonderful Life. Shows on Friday and Saturday start at 8:00 p.m. Sunday’s performance is at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 and $20.

There is another twist on a holiday tale taking place this weekend. UNCW presents a dinner theater production of the musical stage play, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol. The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday and at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $40 for adults, $32 for students and $30 for children. You can save $20 if you skip the dinner and just watch the show. For reservations call 910-962-3195.

The Girls Choir of Wilmington will be performing Friday night at First Presbyterian Church. It begins at 8:00 p.m. The church is located on Third Street in downtown Wilmington.

Grab a spot early. Saturday, it’s Bolivia’s Annual Christmas Parade. It starts at 11:00 a.m. at the Brunswick County Government Complex.

Music and lasers come together for a holiday show at Ingram Planetarium. The rock-and-roll laser shows takes place Saturday night at 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. Lights will be choreographed with music from the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Parents, the 8:00 p.m. show is not suitable for kids. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children three to five.

It is a Wilmington Wonderland on Saturday. The Riverwalk will be filled with local artists, dancers, and other performers. There will also be a children’s area for hands-on holiday crafts. It runs from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The event is free.

This weekend, Pine Valley United Methodist Church in Wilmington presents its Noel, Night of Everlasting Love Christmas Musical. The concert takes place at 7:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday night.

You can catch another choir perform on Sunday night. St. Luke AME Zion Church will hold its Candlelight Christmas Concert. It takes place at 6:00 p.m. at the church, which is located at the corner of Church and Seventh streets.
