Whats Happening: February 13-15
The movie won multiple Oscars, now the play Driving Miss Daisy comes to Wilmington’s Red Barn Theater. It examines the relationship between a southern Jewish woman and her black chauffeur. The play, featuring Linda Lavin, runs Thursday’s through Sunday’s until March 22nd. Shows are at 8:00 p.m., Sunday matinee at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are between $23 and $25.
It is Moulin Rouge like you have never seen it before. This time, you can participate along with the movie. Sing along, dance and you should even wear a costume. The movie starts at 9:00 p.m. inside UNCW’s Lumina Theater. Free admission for students with ID; two dollars for non-students.
Friday, a Ceremony of Love and Remembrance will take place at Hampstead Kiwanis Park. It is a way to remember someone who passed away from cancer, or any other cause. It begins at 6:30 p.m. If you purchase a love luminary, proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
A little winter jazz can spice up your Valentine’s weekend. Bring your own chairs and pack a picnic. It takes place inside the New Hanover County Government Center. It begins at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free for museum members; eight dollars for non-members.
Take a break from cooking breakfast Saturday and let the Burgaw Fire Department do the job. A blueberry pancake breakfast begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 11:00 a.m. It is five dollars per plate; children under four are free. The breakfast is a fundraiser for the NC Blueberry Festival.
Vocal talents of some of New Hanover Counties finest will be on display Saturday afternoon. An all-county elementary choral festival concert features around 150 youngsters. The public is invited to listen to the free concert. It begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Minnie Evans Art Center on Halyburton Memorial Parkway.
UNCW’s Intercultural Week culminates Saturday with a community wide i-Fest. It will feature music, dancing, food, crafts, clothing and cultural displays. It runs from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the UNCW Burney Center.
Saturday, grab your sweetie for a Valentine’s Day dinner and dance at Silver Coast Winery in Ocean Isle Beach. The price is $120 per couple, which includes the meal, music and a bottle of wine. A limited number of tickets are available. For tickets, call the winery at 910 287-2800.
