What’s Happening: January 9-11
Starting this weekend, you can catch a glimpse of a car that’s more like a moving piece of art. Plus, a longtime supporter of youth baseball needs people to pitch in for his cause.
It’s a smart car unlike any you’ve ever seen. Spectrum Art and Jewelry is using a car to drive art to a whole new level. An image of Crystal Pier on Wrightsville Beach is displayed on the side. The gallery is kicking off the year of the Art Smart Car with an open house and wine tasting Friday night from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. It is located on Military Cutoff Road.
You have a few more chances to catch The Producers. It runs Friday through Sunday nights at Level Five at City Stage on Front Street in Wilmington until February 1st. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. Tickets start at fifteen dollars.
If you want to catch a quick, high-tech flick, check out Fatal Flaw, a 22-minute short. It is the first film to use a Red One digital camera. The movie runs from Friday until Thursday at Carmike Cinema. Tickets are five dollars.
Saturday, pound the pavement for a food pantry. The 5th Annual Ocean Isle Beach Bridge Run for Food half marathon and 5k start at 9:00 a.m. Check in runs from 7:00 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. All the proceeds benefit the South Brunswick Interchurch Council Food Pantry. To register, call 910-579-5994.
Team spirit is bringing the community of Clarkton together on Saturday. A fundraiser for longtime sports editor of the Bladen Journal, Buddy Burney, will take place at the Dixie Youth Baseball Complex. Burney, a proponent of youth softball for 30 years, was recently diagnosed with cancer. All money raised will go toward medical bills. Barbeque and chicken and rise plates are six dollars. It runs from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
