When will River Road reopen? City shares update on closure

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — If you’re waiting for River Road in New Hanover County to open, you will have to wait a little while longer.

A portion of the road closed in late September to replace a culvert damaged in 2017 and then failed during Hurricane Florence.

It was scheduled to be closed for six months.

According to a Wilmington city spokeswoman, the $1.37 million project is mostly on schedule, but a pipe collapse during construction caused a bit of a delay.

Now, the road is expected to open in mid to late April.
