White House praises senators for approving AG nominee
WHITE HOUSE (AP) — The White House is commending the Senate Judiciary Committee for approving President Bush’s pick for Attorney General and sending his nomination to the full Senate.
Press secretary Dana Perino says retired judge Michael Mukasey has clearly demonstrated that he will be an exceptional Justice Department leader.
The White House and Senate Republicans have called for a swift confirmation vote. It’s expected by the end of next week.
The committee nod virtually guarantees that Mukasey will be confirmed, despite serious reservations from Democrats and some Republicans over Mukasey’s refusal to call waterboarding torture.
