Whiteville woman shot, suspects leave their car at the scene

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a woman was shot at her home on Stanley Circle Extension.

It happened Sunday around 9:45 p.m. in Whiteville.

The sheriff’s office says the victim was at home when her friend knocked on the door. The victim opened the door to let her friend inside and that’s when two men followed behind.

The men ordered the friend onto the ground and shot the victim in the leg, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspects took off from the scene but forgot to take their car with them when they left. The sheriff’s office says the car was towed from the victim’s driveway.

EMS took the victim to her hospital for the gunshot wound.

The shooting is still under investigation.
