Whiteville teen missing
WHITEVILLE — A 14-year-old Whiteville boy has been missing for more than a week. Police are concerned this may be more than a typical runaway case.
The last time anyone saw Rashad Dalemez Jones was last Monday, after he told his grandmother he was going for a bike ride. Police are concerned that he may be in danger, because of reports in the community that the missing teen knows something about a deadly shooting in lake Waccamaw following a high school football game.
Jones is five-foot-five, 120 pounds, with black hair set in twists. Jones also has a birthmark above his lip that appears to be a faded white mark. He was last seen near Stanley Circle in Whiteville.
Thanksgiving day, his bike was found in a ditch less than half a mile away from his grandmother’s house, but no sign of Jones.
Mabalene Moody is the missing teen’s mother. She said, “They treated it like a crime scene whenever they got up to the bike. He let the dog out to sniff the bike to see if he could get a scent and there was nothing there.”
Since Jones’s disappearance residents have reported possibly seeing him around Columbus County and Whiteville, but so far, none of the sightings have panned out.
While there’s no concrete evidence linking Jones to that shooting in September, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is investigating his disappearance.
If you see Jones or know where he is, call the sheriff’s office at 910-642-6551.
