Widow of Edwards’s ex-finance leader at grand jury
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The widow of the former campaign finance chairman for John Edwards is appearing before a federal grand jury in North Carolina. Lisa Blue arrived Wednesday morning at a federal courthouse in Raleigh.
Blue was married to Fred Baron, who died in 2009. Baron was a Texas attorney who was a top fundraiser and managed the former North Carolina senator’s campaign finances. Former Edwards aide Andrew Young has said he helped take care of Edwards’s mistress Rielle Hunter near the end of the 2008 presidential campaign. Young said he received money from Baron. Baron acknowledged in 2008 that he sent money to Hunter and to Young’s family to settle in California to help them avoid the media.
Edwards has acknowledged a probe into his finances and has said he is confident no campaign funds were used improperly.
