Wilmington businesses impacted by widespread power outage

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A power outage Wednesday morning forced several businesses to close their doors for the day.

More than 7,000 were left without power after an 18-wheeler crashed into a power pole in Wilmington Wednesday morning.

The accident shut down Market Street between Netherlands Drive to Old Dairy Road.

‘Catch’ seafood restaurant owner Keith Rhodes says he and several other businesses had to close for the day as a result.

“Duke Energy were working really hard to try to get the businesses back, but I think a lot of folks like Ruth’s Kitchen, and the blinds place next door, we all lost out a lot,” said Rhodes. “Jiffy Lube, all the little businesses right around here, we all lost out a lot.”

Power has been restored and Rhodes says they’ll be back open tomorrow.
